Hudspeth Games

Back in the Saddle

Hello everyone!

It’s been a very long time since I’ve posted anything regarding Hudspeth Games. Hell, it’s been a very long time since I’ve even had a working website to go along with the domain name. Well, now I’m back in the saddle!

So, I’ve been working on an RPG, off and on, for the past 16 years. And let’s be honest, it’s been more off than on. I would pick it up again every couple of years and diddle with the layout and editing. The core of the work had been finished since, goodness, something like 2010. But I was never very motivated to get that final editing finished. A couple of months ago, I realized that was in large part due to the widening gulf between what the game offered when I created it, and what the indie RPG market has brought forth in the time since. Subconsciously, I think I just wasn’t happy with it and knew it needed more work. Perfect the enemy of the good, and that sort of thing.

With that realization, I finally gave myself permission to just be done with it and release it as is, with a caveat in the Foreword to that effect.

This past week, I released Star Rise at DriveThruRPG in pdf form, and the files are off to Lightning Source for the printing of a casebound proof. When the proof comes in — assuming everything looks ok — I’ll set up the title for Print on Demand, too.

Board Games

I’m excited to be working in the design space again. Over the past year I’ve been working on a board game, Uncivil Engineering, which is at the shopping-for-a-buyer stage. Though, I haven’t really had time to shop it around.

I’ve also started a new second life career as a voiceover artist. I do narration and commercial work. You can check out Q’s Voice if you’re interested. That’s been occupying the majority of my creative output recently.

Moving Forward

Well, that’s what all’s been keeping me busy lately. In the coming months I expect to post more here. I have a backlog of design products to share. Mostly D&D stuff created for and in conjunction with my regular gaming group. I’ve got a few custom classes that I’ve worked on for various games over the years and they should see some daylight. Plus, I’ll need to create some static pages for Star Rise, Uncivil Engineering, and perhaps one to house all the other mini projects.

I look forward to the future!
