Playing the Market

Playing the Market is a system-independent supplement for any RPG with a market system where characters can go shopping for gear. Rules are provided for both fantasy and modern/future settings.

The basic mechanic for Playing the Market is for the game master to roll a handful of d10s. The number of dice is determined by various factors, such as the population of the town the characters are shopping in, or how well connected their fence is. In general, low values determine availability of the item they’re looking for; whereas higher values tell how much it will cost or how long it will take to obtain it.

Playing the Market is available as “pay what you want” exclusively at DriveThruRPG.

Looking to add a little randomness to the prices in your source book’s shopping list?

Want to tie the costs into the availability of the item?

Trying to work with both fantasy and science fiction settings?

Playing the Market may be just what you’re looking for.

With a simple one-roll mechanic you can model market fluctuations for cost and supply of items you want finer control over.

Works with any RPG that has a price-based equipment list. All you need is this book, your equipment list, and a handful of d10s.
